Painting on a plane

I gave myself way more time than usual for this one, as I had to spend 21 hours on 2 planes coming back from Australia. For fulll disclosure, I also watched 4 movies and took a nap, sketched the line and base color before hand and finalized it tonight while catching up on tv shows. I followed big lines the nice tutorial that Loish made for painting with Sketchbook pro, I can tell it helps! Thank you Loish.

Kym as my subject

Perk of dating an artist? You're going to be the subject of your partner art creations!
Here a digital sketch I did a year ago.
I was just drawing a generic guy which didn't get nowhere, so I just turned my head and start to draw Kym on the top of it, while he was playing videogames (that' why the proportions are not realistic).
The strokes of Skechbook Pro can get pretty realistic, I find them quite interesting (other than the fact that the brush I used burn the colors once I did a few overlays).

Once upon a time

this is sketching by memory the actress that play Tamara in the 2nd season of Once upon a time. So it come out quite different but oh well... at least I painted something.

Digital doodling

Here a couple of sketches i did recently. The landscape is made with FreshPaint, after I attended a real acrylic painting class (Tangled) at the Paintlounge here in Toronto. The other sketch is made with Sketchbook Pro.

30 Days Art Challenge - Week 2

Ok, I'm excited for this (not really for the crappy compression that I put all my art under) But this were my 1st cat portraits made with Sketchbook Pro. I'm quite happy with this. Anyways, they're 2 cats, so they'll count for today too :-P

30 days art challenge - Week 1

I'm participating to a group of artist around the world that is encouraging eachother to do art for 30 days with the goal to challenge the onw abilities or learn new tecniques, digitally or traditionally. I cannot put here all the things I did because of work in progress, so I added more of my weekly life drawing at the collective :-)
Anyways, I tried a few new tecnique or subject, so I kept up with the challenge.

Sto partecipando ad un gruppo di artisti attorno al mondo che si sta incoraggiando a fare arte per 30 giorni, con l'obiettivo di migliorarsi e imparare nuove tecniche, sia tradizionali che digitali.
Non posso metter qui tutti i lavori che ho fatto perche' non sono finiti, dunque ho aggiunto qualche altro che ho fatto durante disegno dal vero questa settimana :-)
Alla fine, ho sempre provato nuove tecniche o nuovi soggetti, dunque ho mantenuto lo scopo della sfida.

Drawing pets

I had this idea that I had to improve my photoshop coloring skills, after looking at a number of artists blogs and tumblr. So I asked my friends to give me their pets photos and I did a couple of fast ones (they took me about 1 h 10 each). They're ok, but not what I had in mind. Well, I guess I need to draw more :-)

As for the boy, become a girl as was too feeble, but I like the new hair volume and kindness of this figure more. Hope you like this new version.

Ok, this is an experiment for coloring with Sketchbook Pro, although I'm not really happy with this and I'd need some advice in order to make a more pleasant coloring. I think I'll do a version in wuatercolor and see how that will do. Please comment and critique!

Trying out Sketchbook Pro

This is a good occasion to advertise a bunch of things.
about 2 month ago I went to a Schoolism masterclass with Jason Seiler. It was hosted in the Autodesk bulding here in Toronto, and they gave us a free copy of Sketchbook pro. So tonight I finally install it.
I have to say, I really like the way the brush react to the wacom pencil. I still didn't understand how to use most of the tools, but I think it won't take long.
I made this colored sketch after a pencil one I did to Marlo Meekins while she was talking at TAAFI about a month ago. You should check out her illustartions she's really funny and original.

Canadian Animals

As I liked a lot designing the Atlantic Puffin, I did later some other design based on Canadian Animals as I think most of them are really cute and representative of Canada, and further I'll add some new other. At the moment I'm experimenting turning them in cookie cutters through kym's new 3d Printer and making cookies out of them (see next post)

I'm learning the basics about character design since a while, it will be helpful on my job as a character modeller (finger crossed!)
so Here you can find most of my "homeworks" and hopefully we'll see some progression along the way!

Canadian animal deformed

I had in mind this Canadian animal project and so I'm putting down some design for further developing. I think this come out with a really aboriginal feeling.

Some caricature

Yes, I know looks late now, but I did the sketch the day after I saw Sweeney Todd and finally today I did the simile-ink version. Other than that, some other sketch in order to keep alive this blog. Sadly since I moved from Montreal I draw less. I guess it's a loss of artistic inputs that I was having at work, as lot of my colleagues were drawing in waiting times and there were some fun artistic activity in Montreal to participate. Also I need to do more 3D to keep in exercise and learn some other program in order to be updated with new technologies and be more adaptable.

Some recent Test

Here 2 dolls in pixel art inspired to the comic novel "Skydoll" of Barbucci & Canepa, for a contest they opened last summer. You can see the winners at: http://www.skydollcontest.com/ Of course my work didn't win, but has been fun to participate and see some cool artist work.
The second work I want to post today is a couple of character that I draw for my friend Mark Evin, which wanted to purpose the cartoon "Lost in Cyberspace" to some animation events during last summer. I wish him all the best luck.
About my 3D works, I've open some link at the side of the page, also because this blog should be more for my Drawing stuffs. Anyway the Flickr slideshow is really easy to use for the purpose, so go and enjoy it ;)

Black fairy

That has been sketched on the plane while I was going to Vancouver. It's inspired to the fairy contest we got with Miss Sugarpuss -not that this subject is new to me anyway :-P
