Kym as my subject

Perk of dating an artist? You're going to be the subject of your partner art creations!
Here a digital sketch I did a year ago.
I was just drawing a generic guy which didn't get nowhere, so I just turned my head and start to draw Kym on the top of it, while he was playing videogames (that' why the proportions are not realistic).
The strokes of Skechbook Pro can get pretty realistic, I find them quite interesting (other than the fact that the brush I used burn the colors once I did a few overlays).

sketching Monster University

Ahhh! I really like how mike come out!
These are illustrations of Mike Wazowski and the Dean Hardscrabble made in watercolor from a still frame reference.
When I was watching MU I though... what a great modeling and lighting! So, as I had another night rental available, I start to watch it a second time, and then... o well, I basically spent the rest of the evening on getting these 2 done :-D
Hope you like them too!

30 days art challenge - Week 1

I'm participating to a group of artist around the world that is encouraging eachother to do art for 30 days with the goal to challenge the onw abilities or learn new tecniques, digitally or traditionally. I cannot put here all the things I did because of work in progress, so I added more of my weekly life drawing at the collective :-)
Anyways, I tried a few new tecnique or subject, so I kept up with the challenge.

The Collective- 2nd batch

Again, some other drawing from the Toronto Collective. For more drawing, you may refer to my flickr set. The Collective is actually a cool idea. A group of local artists set every week a meeting, to the place of one or the other, so every time is in a different part of the city. People bring food or drinks, they get a model which can be a friend, a member of the group, or a voulonteer model, and they spend 3 hours chatting and drawing, with some breaks, from 1 to 20 minute poses. The sessions are really entertaining and at the end everybody pass thier skechbook around, so anybody else can see the work done by the memebers of the goup, models included. To close up the evening, who can stay out later go and have dinner or a drink in a near by pub. Occasionally they organize art shows together. ITALIAN for the next batch ;-)

movies and sketches

I have little fortune in getting friends to willingly be a guinea pig for my caricature exercises. Safe for one of my colleagues, which by now occasionally simply hand me her notebook, a pencil, and makes me a big smile. Adorable. Other than that, I find better fortune in either watching TV or magazines. Here some of the ones I'm most happy with, which I traced back with a ink pen brush.

The Collective

No, I didn't stop to draw with all that sewing!
I actually started to go to a collective life drawing here in Toronto, and I got to know a lot of cool local people that reminded me my old self. Finally back in track with some new life drawing!

Texile Museum of Canada and Bata shoe Museum

I have a new link for my Museum Sketching at the following page.
I'm still really enjoying the chance to use the CULTURAL ACCESS PASS and I'll try to keep sketching and visiting canadian history through this pass.
Both Bata and Texile museum change their exibition every few month, so this second time I visited both, I could see new things.
The girl in the 20's dress is made up from pieces and bits seen in the Roaring 20ies room.

Subway Sketching Toronto

I'm here since 4 month already. I didn't post so much.Yeah, lots of changes, and not a sketching group to join over here. Well, I went subway sketching with Bobby Chu a couple of times, but it happen to be at the same time I have to call my parents in italy... Can't do that in the metro...

.
.
.
.
.
......... Then I took the sketchbook with me and did anyway sketches any time I didn't had something to read (what I like of having to travel is actually having time for reading)

Torontonian are really interesting, in 4 square meters there must be 4 different races and many more ranges of age. Well, that is a selection (bad photo comp, yes, I still have to unpack the wacom) and as usual I am not good to be picky about the choice...

20th Sketchcrawl, also in Vancouver

It's amazing how some artist can organize something that get spread over the world.
I was participating to the Dr Sketchy in Montreal, and through Facebook I'm still getting invites for many other artistic group event, which I was sad to don't have the chance to go, as I live now in Vancouver.
This town is great for many things, but not so much going on about art. So I inscribed myself to a clay sculpturing course, in order to awake my rusted ability with traditional modeling.
But yesterday a friend told me that he's going to a sketchcrawl thing, and I realized that Vancouver has some artist that enjoy this kind of stuff as well. If you don't know this arty activity, it's been invented by an Italian that works in San Francisco, Enrico Casarosa, and you can find infos on this website: http://www.sketchcrawl.com/
or you can find the group of your town on facebook as well.
I take the chace to post a couple of sketches I did of Kym during this summer :p

Faires and flowers in Victoria

A little late this post, I know, anyway, we took the chance to visit Victoria, on Vancouver Island, in the last weekend of August. That has been a really nice trip in a relaxing environment. The picture has been done in a Mexican restaurant, that had recycled paper as tablecloth and wax pastels in little baskets for each table.
So, since I just crossed one of this fairy and dragons figurine shop, here i did my draw. I would encourage more restaurant to take such nice initiative, it is a fun entertainment for the clients :)

Some caricature

Yes, I know looks late now, but I did the sketch the day after I saw Sweeney Todd and finally today I did the simile-ink version. Other than that, some other sketch in order to keep alive this blog. Sadly since I moved from Montreal I draw less. I guess it's a loss of artistic inputs that I was having at work, as lot of my colleagues were drawing in waiting times and there were some fun artistic activity in Montreal to participate. Also I need to do more 3D to keep in exercise and learn some other program in order to be updated with new technologies and be more adaptable.
